The crit today was helpful in terms of encouraging us to keep going with our ideas, however it did not help clarify our direction as much as we had hoped. We were still swaying between using the chewing gum bubble idea (getting people involved with blowing bubbles & joining) and using our photos of the bubbles where a hand is reaching across the photo, which looks as though trying to 'connect' with it/them.
We sat down and after much deliberation decided to focus on using the hand images. Hopefully, if all goes to plan we could whip together some later packages with the other ideas, but for now we are trying not to over complicate things. I was really interested in incorporating using a plastic capsule so that the phone itself may be placed inside the capsule and then placed inside the package. After going to inquire about vacuum forming a ball, we established that it would be best to mold half a vector instead, as two halves would become too complicated in terms of joining together. We have booked a spot in woodwork on Friday to make our vector and hopefully can have the plastic made by the end of Friday :) The idea is so that when the closed package is looked at from above, a transparent bubble will be sightly raised and through it one will be able to see the contained mobile phone. The rest of the space in the package will be used to contain the mobile charger, ear piece, booklet etc.
Our To do list is as follows:
- Template for vacuum mold bubble (measurements)
- measurements for the package netting
- inside compartments (we have decided the interior will be black card to compliment outer theme.
- mock ups without plastic bubble
- 'connected' type which is to be run along the side of the package (we want to incorporate the bubble images as the fill for the letters.
- choose photographs for package sleeve and outer casing
- type colours
- Consider information to include on package/ net
- booklet? perhaps use one of O2's original booklets, and place our own designed sleeve to replace cover.
- charger etc. usually come in individual plastic protectors?
- We may want to create stickers from the photos of bubbles - to be printed on a transparent backing. These may be placed on box interior or as extra to add inside the package.
